Free Fallin Cover Songs | 7 Awesome Versions + Bonus Playlist

Help Spread the Word!

Welcome to our list of the top 7 awesome versions of Free Fallin cover songs. Released in 1989, this song was the opening track for Tom Petty’s debut solo album Full Moon Fever. Peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles, Free Fallin became one of Petty’s most famous, and highest and longest charting tracks. The song falls on folk-rock and heartland rock genres but Petty considers this song a ballad.

Composed by Petty and Jeff Lynn, the song was written and recorded in just two days. The lyrics were not particularly about someone. It was more of an outsider’s perspective. Petty said that the words were mostly what he saw in his frequent drive along Ventura Boulevard in his daily trips to the recording studio. The song dealt with Los Angeles culture and the implication was that the people of LA will use others for personal gain.

Free Fallin’s music video was directed by Julien Temple. It was said that the music video was ahead of its time, featuring skateboarding even before the existence of X Games and action sports went mainstream. Mark “Gator” Rogowski, a legendary skater appeared in this video. The girl in the video is Devon Kidd, a gymnast, and model at the time of this video, who also had roles in Enemy Of The StateSlammer Girls and Slumber Party Massacre III.

Free Fallin Lyrics

Free Fallin Cover

She’s a good girl, loves her mamma
Loves Jesus and America, too
She’s a good girl, crazy bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too, yeah yeah
It’s a long day, livin’ in Reseda
There’s a free way running through the yard
I’m a bad boy ’cause I don’t even miss her
I’m a bad boy for breaking her heart

And I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’ And I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’
All the vampires, walkin’ through the valley
They move west down Ventura Boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts

And I’m free
Free fallin’, fallin’
Now I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’Free fallin’, now I’m, Free fallin’, now I’m, Free fallin’, now I’m
Free fallin’, now I’mFree fallin’, now I’m, Free fallin’, now I’m, Free fallin’, now I’m, Free fallin’

I wanna glide down, over Mulholland
Wanna write her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin’
Oh, I’m gonna leave this, this world for a while

Free Fallin Lyrics

Now I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’, Now I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’, Then I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’
Now I’m free, Free fallin’, fallin’, Free fallin’, fallin’, Free fallin’, fallin’, Free fallin’, fallin’

Keith Urban

Spectacular performance from Keith Urban singing his Free Fallin cover. We love how he kept the original version without losing the rock version of it. Yet, he also added layers of instruments making it more enjoyable to listen and sing along to. Even the audience is having a blast just as much as Keith and the band are. Another part to note is the playful guitar riff he did in the middle of the song. All respect to great music, and even more for great musicians such as Keith!
