Welcome to our list of the 10 most popular picks of Simple Man Remakes. One of the best known Lynyrd Skynyrd songs, this was released in April 1973. This was written by the band’s lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant and lead guitarist Gary Rossington, and one of those great songs with memorable lyrics. It was written when the two got together talking about their loved ones that died, Van Zant’s grandmother and Rossington’s mother. Van Zant took inspiration from the advice that these important women of their lives gave them over the years. He commented on the song during a track-by-track commentary for the promotion of their 2010 CD/DVD Live From Freedom Hall that:

“Well that’s a great song and something that I think we all live by. I think anybody out there needs to respect their mother, and the words of their mother. It’s mama talking to you in that song and I think it’s probably one of my favorite’s if not my favorite to do live”.

To this day, there have been many covers done with this iconic song. Because why not? It’s is a song everybody can definitely relate to. It has an emotional tug to it and the one who listens could never let the song’s message pass. The song’s compelling music and message stays in the heart of every person who listens.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Original Version

Let’s begin our journey by listening to the original recorded version. Falling into the southern rock and hard rock genres, the original version’s rawness highlights the message of the song. While the most viewed videos in the net are the live and concert videos, isn’t it cool to revisit how the band interpreted the song from its release?

Simple Man Lyrics

Mama told me when I was young
“Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it’ll help you some sunny day”

“Oh, take your time, don’t live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
You’ll find a woman and you’ll find love
And don’t forget, son, there is someone up above”

Simple Man Remakes

“And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can”

“Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied”

“And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can

“Oh yes, I will”
Boy, don’t you worry, you’ll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied”

“And be a simple kind of man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won’t you do this for me, son, if you can

“Baby, be a simple, really simple man
Oh, be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple, kind of simple man

Shinedown

Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Awesome performance from Shinedown. Call it soul-shaking because this cover just does that. This is definitely one of the best covers done to this Lynyrd Skynyrd iconic song. Singing with just an acoustic guitar to accompany, this highlights Brent Smith’s emotionally-charged vocals that could even jerk a tear out of you. In this video, Shinedown sings the song as it originally is but owning it at the same time.

This cover was only intended to be an “acoustic thank you” to the Ronnie Van Zant’s wife, Judy, for all the help she extended to the band. Shinedown played the song in Judy’s cafe and they sounded so good they played it again live on radio in Boston after a month. This somehow was spread over the internet and got great responses through downloads. They did an acoustic record of the song, which was then released as their next single in 2004.

Marty Ray Project

Watch this emotional Marty Ray Project cover video, one of the best on our list. He sings with passion and we feel the emotions that the song sends out. He has a really powerful voice. Other than being a singer-songwriter, this highly talented artist is also into film and producing. He does scriptwriting for film and is an actor, too. Apart from that, he has also created and produced his own Indie film and music radio show. Despite the busy man that he is, he still always takes time to respond to his fans in his social media.

Why you ask, is the name Marty Ray Project and not just Marty Ray band or something? He says, “It’s a project to see if a man can make it without a label at all. I know I’ll never win a Grammy because I don’t have a label behind me, but I don’t care. If I have fans that support me, ones that I’ll never lose appreciation for and always do my best to interact with, then I’m doing okay.” He’s admirably down to earth and we, the fans, do love that and his music.
